Glittering Water

Today's adventure is at one of the most amazing waterfalls I have ever seen. Burney Falls is not only incredibly tall, but also incredibly beautiful. I have been going there ever since I was a kid.

The waterfall is 129 feet high and at the top, the main stream is split into two by a rooted tree. The water also runs down the cliff face on either side of the main falls. All of the water gathers in a large pool where people can swim if they brave the freezing temperatures.

My favorite part about Burney Falls is sitting on the rocks and taking in the whole scene.

The force of that much water flowing down in front of you and having this large beautiful blue pool at your feet is magnificent. All of the trees and soil provide rich greens and earth tones. Pictures do not do the glittering water justice.

The spray from the falls is chilly, so you will not burn up from heat when you relax at the base of the falls. The rocks can be difficult to hike over, so watch your step when you are trying to find a spot to take a break.

A large trail loops around the falls. Its difficulty level is fairly easy, and it is well maintained.

If you need a break along the way, there are wooden benches on the trail. They have fitting nature quotes on them.

Aside from the loop, a unique trail crosses through this park. Markers for the Pacific Coast Trail can be seen on the main trail going around the falls. The Pacific Coast Trail goes from the very bottom of California to the top of Washington.

The store in the park accepts mail for these travelers who trek the PCT. Ice cream and other souvenirs can be found in the store too.

Visitors or hikers can stay at the park as well because of the accommodating campsite.

The directions are simple – if you start on I5 North, you take exit 680. This takes you onto CA 299, and you drive until you take a left onto CA 89. Finally there's a sign on the left for Burney Falls!
