Birthday Adventure

I have been wanting to hike to the famous Potato Chip Rock all semester and I finally made it. What better day to do it than on my 22nd birthday? Who doesn't want to adventure and hike for their birthday?

The weather in San Diego was beautiful today, but this is not a hike to be tackling in the heat. There are heat stroke warnings before starting, and the hike is mostly exposed to the sun the whole time.

It is also an incredible incline, straight up the whole way. There are actually two "different" trails to get to the attraction. The one that starts by Lake Poway is longer and a more steady incline with more switchbacks. The one by the fire station is a a strong trek straight up almost, but shaves some distance off.

My boyfriend and I had a blast hiking, especially because the trail wasn't crazy busy like it is on the weekends.

Once we got to the main attraction, I was a little shocked. It's way smaller than what pictures make it out to be. It is still interesting how a slice of rock can hang over air for so many years of photoshoots without breaking. There is a line for photos.

The rock feature was a sight to see, and we did wait in line for pictures.

While we were waiting, we struck up conversation with a couple who had a cute dog in front of us in line. They were a few years older than us, but had also attended San Diego State. We told them it was my birthday and they gave me a beer!

The beer was delicious, and we all had fun watching a huge group of tourists get about 1,000 photos each on the rock.

After getting our pictures, we headed back down which took us half the time. We took about an hour going up and a half hour going down.

The hike was fun, the weather was beautiful, the company was great and the whole adventure turned out to be very entertaining. It was a great way to spend my birthday morning.

Here is a trifold of pictures!

Comment if you have ever hiked on your birthday!
