San Francisco Weekend Pt. 2

Flowing right into my Saturday and Sunday in San Francisco, were more conference sessions and networking. I was still having a great time taking the Bart, walking around the streets and eating snacks with coworkers.

Saturday was much slower for me in terms of sessions because I only went to a few, but I also made it my homework day. It was impossible for me to get all of my school work done before we left Thursday morning, so I still had assignments and quizzes to do during the conference.

My first session of the day was with Sara Quinn called Photojournalism in the age of Instagram which was really interesting because she helped us understand what stands out and what doesn't. I hope I can incorporate her tips into my photography to reach the largest audience I can!

After a couple hours of homework, I went to Environmental reporting with Casey Smith. It was one of the last sessions of the day and only about seven other journalists attended the session. All of the journalists in the room were women which was an amazing atmosphere to be in because not only were we all really passionate about environmental journalism, but we were all women supporting women. This session was super helpful for me because Casey really showed me what I could be doing in terms of stories, interviews and research. Casey is inspiring because she is a graduate student creating amazing reporting being published in big names such as The Washington Post and National Geographic.

Then I had dinner downtown with some coworkers and went home.

Sunday was our free day. I got to relax and see my boyfriend's mom which was amazing. I loved seeing her and hanging out. We flew out that night, landed in San Diego and I opened at work Monday morning.

I had never been to a journalism conference before, so this was all new to me. It was the best feeling to be surrounded with people who share your passion for journalism and who are in the same phase of life. I enjoyed hanging out and talking with all of these interesting people.
